Mission
The mission of the Lutheran Laymen's League, also
known as "Lutheran Hour Ministries" is to "Bring Christ to the
Nations and the Nations to the Church." We do this with
cutting-edge communications on TV, radio, the internet, literature, and viddeo
and audio cassettes. We work in 135 nations around the world in 25
languages.
Our local LLL men's group at Trinity has 35
members and meets ten times a year on the 1st Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
for an hour of fellowship and spiritual uplifting. The two major projects
sponsored by our local LLL each year to raise funds for the Kansas District LLL
projects and local needs are the Annual Pancake Feed and the Annual Ice Cream
Social. The local LLL is celebrating its 50th year in 2002 so we have
posted some pictures taken at the 1-27-02 annual pancake feed.

For this special 50th annual Ground Hog Feed, Rocky Sanders displays
one of the new aprons for workers while Walt Frederking models one of
the aprons worn in the past. It is called Groundhog Day after the
sausage (ground hog) which is served with the pancakes. Proceeds
go to scholarships given to students studying in church-related
fields. With some help from the youth group, there are separate
committees in charge of mixing the batter, frying the sausage, flipping
the pancakes, serving extra pancakes and drinks, and keeping the tables
supplied with warm syrup & butter patties, while keeping on top of
cleaning off tables in order to handle the large number of
diners. |

Flipping pancakes from right to left is Dr. David George,
Walt Frederking, and Alex Andreson. There are two kinds of
pancakes served, the regular kind, plus a special buckwheat pancake,
which was added about 12 years ago. According to Frederking, the
actual recipe is kept a secret and passed down only to select
laymen. It's an all-you-can-eat pancake meal with serving from 4
to 7 pm. |
