Board of Health & Family Life

Members from left to right:  (seated) Janice Peterman, Gale Burger, Daysha Sutton; (standing) Pastor Charles W. Adams (counselor), Jo Schultz, Sonja Welch, Denise Peebles (director), and Elsa Boston.  Not pictured:  Becky Chaput and Sue DuBois.  .Meeting time:  2nd Monday each month at 7:00 pm.

Basic Objectives:

Deal compassionately with physical, emotional, social and economic needs within congregation and community; maintain Parish Nurse program, Family Life program and Need Assistance program; administer Welfare Fund in cases of severe financial need within congregation; plan year-round support programs for Lutheran World Relief; study possibilities and recommend implementation for offering spiritual services and care to hospitals, care homes, prisons and other institutions within the community.

Some of the special programs this board has organized and supervises are:

  • Need a ride to church?  Call City Cab (825-8294) Saturday night or Sunday morning for a time to be picked up.  After arriving at church, inform the cab driver of the time the service will be over for a ride home.  Initial the ticket and the bill will be paid by the church.

  • "Feed My Sheep" food barrel at entrance for food donations that are then taken to the Salina Food Bank at regular intervals.

  • Souper Bowl collection of cans of soup for the Food Bank.

  • Coordinating social ministry needs, e.g. minor home repair, lawn/yard work, snow removal, periodic light cleaning of house or garage, personal errands, transportation to doctor, medical treatments, store, or Bible class, etc.

  • Casserole Club--using donated casseroles, provide meals to ill/shut-ins.

  • Celebrating St.Luke's Sunday with a special program commemorating the beloved physician with an emphasis on our physical and spiritual health.

  • Organizing special interest groups, such as parenting classes, grief support,  senior citizens, recently divorced, blended families, etc.

Some Parish Nurse participants:  Arlene Neukirch, Marilyn Griffin, Rosemary Bonin, Jolene Albrecht, and Loreen Buccigrossi.  Not pictured:  Sue DuBois, Ruth Anderson, Neil Albrecht, and Gary Welch..

Trinity is very fortunate to have a Parish Nurse program.  The board would welcome a volunteer to assume official duties of Parish Nurse at Trinity, which position has been vacant with the resignation of Connie Scheffer in 2003 due to family medical problems.  With the help of several nurses who are members of Trinity, and under the coordination of Marilyn Griffin, our program has continued but on a limited basis.   Promotions in the past include:

  • Setting up Classes for CPR certification at Trinity

  • Setting up Red Cross Blood Mobile collections at Trinity

  • Blood Pressure Clinics the 3rd Sunday of every month

  • Stroke Assessment Clinic (new, recently added Feb 2000)

Currently, three health team ministries have been implemented as follows:

Seniors--Marilyn Griffin, Leader, Jolene Albrecht, Loreen Buccigrossi, and Sue DuBois..

Parent/Child--Rosemary Bonin, Leader, Arlene Neukirch.

Health Education & Promotion--Ruth Anderson, Leader, and Neil Albrecht..

Serving in other capacities are:  Charlene Nelson as Leader for the lay ministry to shut-ins, Margaret Bosch as Casserole Club Coordinator, and Gary Welch will continue to review medications for Trinity's members.

If you have a special need, contact our Parish Nurse or someone on this Board.
