Board of Elders

Adams, Neil Albrecht;  standing:  Mike Hassman, Ken Chaput, Mike Harvey, Pastor Robert C. Schaedel, George Boston, Gary Neuschafer, and Scott Emme.  Not pictured:   Al Bosch, C. J. Cross, Jack Haney, Don Jaeger, and Brian McCullough.

Basic Objectives:

Spiritual welfare of pastors, other called workers, and all members of the congregation; pray for and encourage pastors and called workers; interview and hire staff replacements; review communion and church attendance; call on delinquents; visit the hospitalized, aged and shut-ins; assist the pastors with communion distribution, scripture reading and preaching as required.  The administrative elders prepare budget recommendations on salaries.

In carrying out their objectives, the elders endeavor to do the following:

  • Annually review items that affect the spiritual, emotional and physical health of pastors and their families, such as whether compensation, housing, free time and vacation is adequate, and to offer assistance in time of illness.

  • Assist pastors in counseling with difficult cases and in finding peaceful and God-pleasing solutions.

  • Annually review yearly salary and performance of office secretaries and make appropriate recommendations.  When there is a vacancy, interview and hire a replacement in conjunction with the pastors.

  • Have spiritual charge and oversight of the geographical or familial groupings assigned to them as shown below.

  • Insure that the congregation functions in accordance with established doctrine of the church (Article 3 of Constitution).

  • Review church and communion attendance of members, make calls on delinquents, and follow up on new-born children until they are baptized.

  • Train and supervise visitation committee and engage in visitation of all sick, hospitalized, aged and shut-ins (in conjunction with Board of Stewardship).

  • Investigate cases of severe financial aid within congregation.  Make specific recommendations to pastors and Board of Stewardship.  Encourage donations to Elders Love Fund which can then be used as determined to help provide the necessary aid.

  • Be concerned and supervise thorough instruction of youth and adults for confirmation and church membership with policies and aims of the Board of Christian Education.

  • Provided for guest speakers as needed.
